What can you do with a specialization in "Information Assurance and Security"?

Sponsored by: Capella University

Information systems play an important role in the infrastructure that supports many industries like commerce, banking, telecommunications, health care, and national security.

New financial and health care regulations related to privacy and security, along with a growing move to more vulnerable wireless systems, have also increased the importance of protecting these information systems.

As the overall IT field grows -- the state of Minnesota, for example, has added technology jobs through the 2000's -- so does the need for qualified informational assurance and security specialists.

Examples of Information Assurance jobs include:

  • Information security manager
  • Computer security specialist
  • Data security consultant
  • IT security architect
  • Information security specialist/analyst

Because technology advances every day and becomes more ingrained in our daily activities, these positions assist in the protection of our businesses and online activities, and they do so from within many different types of organizations in the private and public sectors.

The Information Assurance and Security master’s specialization at Capella prepares information technology professionals to assess information security risks and develop and implement solutions to safeguard the information assets and enterprise IT infrastructures of organizations.

The specialization is designed to help you acquire and apply the latest tools, techniques, and methods of securing an enterprise, while building the business and communication skills you need to influence internal decision making and enhance organizational effectiveness.

Learners examine the technical and managerial controls critical to the success of an information assurance program, including enterprise and wireless security, security risk management, security management practices, secure system development, and computer forensics. Upon successful completion of this specialization, learners are prepared to pursue careers as information assurance and security specialists.
